Dualities
United by nature and tactile layers.
Kathy Beekman’s practice bridges finger painting soft pastel landscapes on black paper and textured mixed media on birch panel featuring acrylic and metal leaf. These diverse mediums represent a singular, evolving journey that honors both the serenity of the earth and the complexity of layered light.

Kathy's Process
For her pastel paintings, Kathy works with pure powdered pigment sticks on black paper, finger-blending and smudging directly rather than relying on traditional tools. She slowly builds soft, atmospheric depth by hand, layer by layer, letting the dark ground glow through.
For her mixed media pieces, she layers acrylic paint, ink, graphite, and touches of gold or silver leaf onto birch panel, building texture and dimension in stages instead of a single pass. Each piece evolves over time, with materials added, veiled, and revealed until the surface feels both quiet and alive.
Each Folio design begins as one of Kathy's intricate pencil drawings, brought to life in fine, hand-inked detail. Simply download, print, and color at your own pace; no special tools required, just your favorite pencils, markers, or paints. There's no wrong way to color a Folio page; let intuition guide you, and make it your own.
