Description:

Unleash your inner artist for a few hours.   Kathy will guide you through the mesmerizing process of capturing the essence of snow using the pure pigment of soft pastel.  

 

Explore the breathtaking world of winter hues and watch as Kathy shares her professional techniques and insider tips for blending, layering, and creating this scene. This is not your average art workshop.  It is a tactile sensory experience full of support, encouragement and loads of experimentation. 

 

Goals:

• Learning to fingerpaint with soft pastel through layering and blending techniques

• Understanding the science of snow

• Creating artwork that reflects your personality

• Becoming confident with the subject at hand as well as in the use of this medium

• Recognizing elements of design

 

Student Supply List:

• Apron or paint shirt

• Basic 12-color box of Soft Pastels (NOT oil pastels!)  A box with a larger pastel stick count is always acceptable.  (Recommended pastel brands:  Diane Townsend or Terry Ludwig Pastels)

• 2 – (or more) sheets of paper. Recommended paper brand:  Rising Stonehenge in any color.  Kathy will be using black.

• Can of a pastel final fixative (not a workable fixative)

• Container of Wet Ones or Baby Wipes to easily clean your hands

Optional:

• Dust Mask which will provide adequate protection against dry pigments and most dusts

• Disposable Latex Gloves for protecting your hands from pastels.  Kathy does not use gloves.

• Newspaper, glassine, or kraft paper to protect your paintings during transport

• 2 sheets of 22 x 30 cardboard taped together on one side (so that you can store your paintings safely
